Graveney Win by 27 runs
Graveney regained the Kenny Doyle
memorial shield with a 27 run win over Newdigate on Bank holiday Monday
to go 3-2 up in the never ending series. This fixture had been cancelled
the last 2 seasons due to poor weather but after a wet start the sun
came out to ensure a prompt start this year.
Graveney batted first in a 45 overs
game with Paul Fanning (75) and Rob Davies (8) putting on a rapid 20 for
the first wicket. Paul Jeffels scored 10 in 13 balls. Skipper Fanning
had a narrow escape early in his knock when the ball rolled very close
to his stumps before the skippy swivelled (!) to knock the ball
away.Nick Goodburn (27) put together a steady innings as the Graveney
middle order did not show much form-the total going from 137-4 to 161-8.

when the chairman took a sharp chance at slip to astound his team mates!
Paul Bettsworth (40) threatened to win the game for his side on his own
but once he was dismissed the home side never really got on top despite
Graveney dropping numerous chances.
Paul Fanning excelled by letting a possible catch hit him in the b....ocks.
Paul remained on the ground for some time, looking for sympathy, his
team mates did not show much. Tim Everest took the bowling honours for
Graveney taking 4-42 in 10 overs. with Rob Davies 3-29 supporting
