'Hussey
ton helps Graveney demolish Abinger Hammer by 197 runs'
By Pradeep Jain
Graveney 301 - 3 declared
Abinger Hammer 104 all out
Graveney Win by 197 runs
Graveney’s 10 men
army put Abinger Hammer to the sword and recorded their biggest win ever
in Graveney’s known history; it was massive 197 run victory.
Graveney lost the
toss and were put in to bat. The weather was fantastic with an excellent
pitch for batsmen. Paul and Baz opened the batting and shattered the
bowler all around the ground until Baz got bowled on 19 with the ball
remaining a bit low. Mr Hussey came and was looking quite composed and
solid. While on the other hand Paul was charging the bowlers everywhere
and the special one was the one straight down the ground into the pond,
a lot of spectators had a good water splash.
We were enjoying
dual entertainment on the field and off the field by KC. Paul reached 76
in no time and was unfortunately caught out at long leg. An excellent
knock but still the entertainment was not over. In came the skipper
Nick, as the name suggests he was in real Good Nick. As Richard was
looking more and more dangerous, Nick was giving him good support. When
it was around the last to go, Richard thought of entertaining everyone
with his 15 minutes 50 runs to make a total of 112 which includes his
massive sixes. On other hand Nick played a captains innings and showing
much maturity in his 51 not out. At the time Richard got out it was
almost time to declare as we reached almost 300. Pradeep stepped in for
a short time with 1 not out.
It was the best
upper order strong batting performance any team could wish for.

After tea, Abinger’s strong batting line up included
2 international hockey players. In OD’s absence, KC was doing the wicket
keeping along with keeping the match entertainment going.
As Abinger had a
huge total to chase they put in their best batsman against our front
line bowlers. Pradeep rooted out the top order batsmen along with good
help from Tim Bunn at the other end. Then came Jez and Jay to root out
their middle order and they did it quite beautifully. The magic moment
was the slip catch taken by Baz who missed out on a difficult low catch
on the previous delivery from Jay. Then it was Tim Eveleigh who had a
magical spell of 6 over’s with 5 runs and 3 wickets, rooting out their
tail Enders.
Man of the match:
Richard
Hussey for a fine century.
Champagne moment:
Tim
Eveleigh wading into a stream to retrieve the ball.
