At Southill Park

Home Up

John O'Ds Review Of Southill Park (Bedfordshire)
Founded 1884

Location

Off the A1 not far short of Bedford - 90 miles from Reigate Hill. AA Route planner says 1 hour 36 minutes!

This is a beautiful spot. A private ground within a country Estate. There is some connection with the Whitbread brewing family.

Pavilion

Has a thatched roof. Cosy with great view. Lots of tables, chairs, Bar, 3 T.V.s on last visit, all on top of each other! Kitchen area (with dish washer). Many team photos on walls. Geoff Thompson played here with the young Australians in 1977. A Choice of Gents toilets!

Changing Room

I thought I was back in Kent at Town Malling! Big enough to take the club kitbag coffins and all players and supporters!

 Showers

Only two!

Tea

Well worth the journey. Large selection of cakes and sandwiches.

Nearest Pubs

The White Horse is just 5 minutes from the ground. It has been recently refurbished. The old public bar has been ripped out and the locals call it :- 'The Restaurant'! Beers - London Pride, Flowers, IPA. No local brews! Skipper and Vice-skipper seen drinking coffee here before the game in 2000! Whatever happened to the 5 pints before the game!

In 2002 the club met at the Green Man - Stanford, only to discover yet another Pub/Restaurant.

In 2005 we discovered 'The Cock Inn', Broom near Biggleswade. The beer is served straight from the cellar, no bar. In the Good Beer Guide and Which's Country Pubs.

Forgotten something for the match? You would probably have to travel miles before coming across any shops!
