'Graveney Continue Losing
Streak at Leigh'
By Paul Jeffels
Leigh 252 - 4 (from 40 overs)
Graveney 178 all out (from 33 overs)
Leigh Win by 74 runs
Graveney
returned to Leigh hoping to perform better than in
previous years. The sun was shining, it was a glorious day for cricket
in the English countryside.
Leigh
won the toss and decided to bat on what looked like a decent batting
track. Graveney suffered a huge blow after a couple of overs when john
Howard pulled up sharply after chasing a ball to boundary in front of
the pavilion. That all but put pay to johns match, fortunately the oppo
donated a sub fielded which we were grateful for considering the heat.
Big
Tim was the pick of the bowling, beating the bat on several occasions,
keeping it very tight and ending which figures of 1-29 off his 8 overs.
The Leigh batsmen all contributed to their score & they ended on a
sizeable 252 for the loss of just 4 wickets. They all batted sensibly,
playing themselves in & then waited to punish the bad ball. Graveney
could really learn from this approach!
Rob &
Nick opened the batting and looked good early on punishing some loose
stuff from the Leigh openers. Unfortunately Rob's poor form continued &
he was bowed for just 4. This brought bear to the crease & together with
Nick batted sensibly adding 70 runs quickly. Just when they thought they
had seen off the opening bowlers, Nick was given out LBW, it was a close
call but no- one would have been surprised if Dave Moody had kept his
finger in his pocket.
Following Nick's departure, bear stepped up a gear & started hitting the
ball to all parts. This included sixes into the car park, children's
playground and comically....one six which bounced off OD's car.
Fortunately for his insurers no damage was done.
Just
as bear was cruising towards another ton he was brilliantly caught &
bowled for 88 by Bounds, ironically Bounds was out in the same way to
bear earlier in the day.
Graveney put up little resistance from then on losing the last 7 wicket
for just 31 runs. John OD was out twice, caught at mid on then run out (
running for john Howard) well done chairman!
Leigh
won by 74 runs, Graveney were one quality batter & bowler short of
making the game competitive.
Man of the match:
Paul
Jeffels.
Champagne moment:
Paul
Jeffels hitting O'Ds car with a six and John O'D running out John Howard
when on as a runner.
