'Graveney Fail to Impress at Oakwood Hill'
By John O'Driscoll
Oakwood Hill 173 all out (from 39.4 overs)
Graveney 91 all out (from 37.3 overs)
Graveney Lost by 82 runs
Having scored 227 the previous
week, Graveney were hoping that the runs would continue to flow at
Oakwood Hill. A fixture that has seen the `Green Caps` bowled out
for low scores in the past and a record of two wins in the last
eight visits.
Graveney started with a medium
pace attack of Dave Chappell and Jez Skidmore in the absence of
Pradeep still travelling to the ground through the back-streets of
deepest Surrey. The Chairman suggested to Jez that he should have
had a pint of tanglefoot in The Punchbowl instead of his `sporting`
orange juice as Jez`er produced a catalogue of wides in his three
overs.
Pradeep, now on the pitch,
produced the best bowling figures (3-29) supported by some good
Graveney fielding. Notable stops from Dave Chappell earned him the
`Man of match award`
The `Green Caps` actually
chalked-up 3 run outs with one exceptional moment. A thunderous
drive was parried (or could be described as a dropped caught and
bowled) onto the stumps by the burly Tim Bunn to run-out
Kitchen(60) as the opener was backing-up. Possible Champagne moment
of the season!
Graveney did manage to drop
six catches but it was agreed (was it by those who dropped the
catches?) that the `spills` did not cost many runs.
Oakwood Hill lost their last
five wickets for 19 runs to finish on 173.
Graveney were hoping that Rob
Davies and the Bear would hit big totals to give the `Green Caps` a
chance of victory. Both, however, were dismissed when they seemed
set for a good scores. Sonny Weston(22) including .four 4`s top
scored, but Graveney lost wickets at regular intervals to very
accurate bowling and were all out after 37.3 overs to lose by 82
runs.
