'Graveney lose momentum in run chase at Rudgwick'
By John
O'Driscoll
Rudgwick 213 - 1 (from 41 overs)
Graveney 154 - 5 (from 36 overs)
Match Drawn
Almost a month had elapsed since
Graveney`s first game of the season at Newdigate. The second
game of the season saw `The Green Army` travel into Sussex
for a first ever game v Rudgwick. An impressive pavilion
(only some 4 years old) with ample room for various other
games plus Sky Sports, got good calls. The `Green Caps`
still at the bar with 15
minutes to go before the 2 p.m.start!
Graveney`s full 11 included the return of Paul Fanning
(unable to find another club!) and first games of the season
for Scolari, Smaller Tim, Skippy N.G.
Rudgwick
batted first on a dry track-the outfield however, took on
a strange look being heavily sanded.
A tentative start by the Rudgwick openers
gave the Graveney bowlers hope of an early break through-it
was not to be, as the opening pair put up 100 for the first
wicket! N.G. used 8 bowlers in a vain attempt to take
wickets, but to no avail-only Jez Skidmore (1-36) was
successful as Rudgwick finished on 213-1 in 41 overs.
Graveney were going to have to bat in an
aggressive fashion to overtake the Rudgwick total. When Nick
Goodburn (69) and Paul Fanning were together it looked
on-they taking the score to 82-3 wkts. in a partnership of
66 in 39 minutes. The lower order was unable to carry on the
momentum and Graveney finished on 154-5 wkts. in 36 overs to
draw the game. Skippy N.G. taking the batting honours-his
score including 9 fours.
Well played to the few Graveney players
who stayed at the bar after the game longer than the
opposition!!
Man of the match:
Nick
Goodburn's excellent 69.
Champagne moment:
John
O'Driscoll. John fell to his knees turning for the second but
only sent Nick back when he was along side him.
No matter as Nick made
his ground with ease because it should have been a comfortable three.
