'Graveney's Nine Go Down to First Saturday Defeat'
By John O'Driscoll

Graveney 108 - 7 (from 40 overs)

Wonersh 110 - 5 (from 27.3 overs)

Lost by 5 wickets

Graveney were only able to field 9 players for the club`s 2nd ever visit to the picturesque village of Wonersh on Saturday. There opponents also had team problems and were 10 in number.

Graveney batted first on a hot afternoon-openers Nick Goodburn (7) and Tim Eveleigh (0) were both able to enjoy the early afternoon sunshine, both back in the poavilion with just 21 on the board. Only `Bear` Jeffels (60) batted with conviction as wickets tumbled, no other Graveney player making double figures.

Graveney`s meagre total of 108 would take some defending-especially with iinevitable gaps in the field. Jay Vibert 3-24 gave the `green caps` hope with a spirited opening spell as Wonersh wobbled at 17-3. Skipper P.J. looked frustrated as two chances went down in one over - you don`t drop catches off the skipper`s bowling. Mess`rs Pradeep and Skidmore no doubt batting 10 and 11 next time!!

Burge (47) and Chilton (35) took advantage of the gaps in the field to steer Wonersh to victory in an un-broken partnership.

After an enjoyable pint of `Kentish ale` on the Wonersh sun-drenched pavilion balcony, the Chairman suggested a trip to Reigate to watch the `Foot`ie in the V.I. Pub and meet the appealing Thai waitress`es! so all was not lost!!

Man of the match:  Jay Vibert.

Champagne moment:  Jez Skidmore's startling catch at point.
